Prospective Students

If you like to solve problems and appreciate the challenge of taking a project from concept to completion, Rice’s Mechanical Engineering program will give you opportunities to build and create and learn in the process. You will be surrounded by like-minded students with whom you will collaborate and create solutions to real-world problems. You will get to know your professors and forge friendships that will stay with you for years to come.

In our program, you’ll be encouraged to showcase your entrepreneurial spirit, taking part in competitions and team projects that may lead to securing a patent or selling a product. You’ll have extraordinary opportunities to work with faculty in their research, possibly culminating in paper publication or a presentation at a national conference. You’ll work and study in state-of-the-art facilities, including the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen (OEDK), where you can use the machine shop, laser cutter, circuit board printer and 3-D printer to bring your engineering ideas to life.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is dedicated to educating the next generation of engineers who go on to become leaders in their professions and are accepted into top-rated graduate programs. Our programs offer strong foundations in math and science, vital research and design experience and opportunities to develop leadership skills. We prepare our students to make an impact in the world.
