Marcia O’Malley, the Stanley C. Moore Professor of Mechanical Engineering and adviser to the provost has been named one of four BioHouston 2019 Women in Science with Excellence (WISE) honorees. The award recognizes women who have made significant contributions in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
O’Malley’s research focuses on the design, modeling and control of electromechanical devices and systems. She is director of the Mechatronics and Haptic Interfaces Lab and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
“For the past 10 years, BioHouston’s WISE awards program has turned the spotlight on the high level of STEM talent in the region,” said Ann Tanabe, BioHouston CEO. “The latest group of honorees joins an elite roster of women that includes astronauts, world-renowned medical researchers, educators and inventors. Many of our honorees blazed trails that opened up new career options for women.”
O’Malley and her fellow nominees, Maria Elena Botazzi of Baylor College of Medicine, Sharon Dent of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Vicki Hollub of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, will receive their awards on Jan. 18, 2019 during the 10th Annual WISE Luncheon at the River Oaks Country Club.
