My Perspective: Wes Yee
"Gaining a historical perspective on the concepts I was learning in my STEM classes gave me a greater appreciation for how these ideas developed and played a role in the broader context of human thought. I have particularly enjoyed how my education at Rice has allowed me to understand how humanities and STEM are really just two complementary sides of the same coin."
-Wes Yee '18, undergraduate in mechanical engineering
"Situated inside Rice’s Moody Center for the Arts is a state-of-the-art makerspace with incredible facilities. The best part of the makerspace lies in the accessibility of the space and what it can be used for. The Moody Center emphasizes that the makerspace is designated for personal projects, meaning you aren’t required to work on a project with a club/organization to use the equipment."
-Wes Yee '18, undergraduate in mechanical engineering
"The experiences I had with my MECH education in brainstorming, oral presentations, and task management have all contributed to making me more successful as a Head Mentor and ensures that our mentees get the most out of the program. DREAM has helped me grow as a leader, mentor, and educator."
Why study mechanical engineering?
"At Rice, I took Control Systems, and Thermal Design, and Partial Differential Equations, where I realized that mechanical engineering was so much more than just building things that move. It’s an incredibly broad field where you learn concepts from all other majors."
-Wes Yee '18, undergraduate in mechanical engineering
"Senior design is sort of a mix between the actual workplace and school, where you’re free to apply your knowledge and make mistakes. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn and grow."
-Wes Yee '18, undergraduate in mechanical engineering
