Researchers in the Department of Mechanical Engineering are working together to provide innovative and groundbreaking contributions to fields such as energy and the environment, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and biocompatible robotics.
Our faculty's research groups are seeking to gain a deeper understanding of the world around us, and also to apply that understanding to improving and advancing our world.
Our department is home to 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty, each of whom teach undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct research, and four non-tenure-track faculty focused on education, all with PhDs in engineering and a diverse array of industrial backgrounds, including a former astronaut.
