Research in Mechanical Engineering
Current research activities in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rice include topics related to fluid mechanics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, dynamics and vibrations, control systems, robotics, and thermodynamics. Research in Mechanical Engineering seeks to gain a deeper understanding of the world around us, and also to apply that understanding to improving and advancing our world. Faculty, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduates in the Department of Mechanical Engineering are working together to provide innovative and groundbreaking contributions to fields such as energy and the environment, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and biocompatible robotics. Department researchers are also working with colleagues in every other engineering discipline at Rice, as well as many fields in the sciences and social sciences, and with collaborators from the Texas Medical Center, NASA, and other local industries and universities.
